NRA Basic Shotgun and Instructor Course
Here is your chance to take both the NRA Basic Shotgun class on day one (November 6, 2021) and the NRA Shotgun Instructor on day two (November 7). This is the first time we have offered these two classes at the Preserve Academy so sign up before it sells out!
In the basic class, students will learn how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development.
On the second day, students will learn how to teach the basic shotgun class and upon successful completion will be certified as an NRA Shotgun Instructor.
Required Prerequisites: NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) completed in the last two years.
Required Equipment: Eye and ear protection, shotgun capable of loading a minimum of two rounds, (may be an over/under, semi-automatic or pump actions type) and 4 – 6 boxes of 12 or 20 gauge shotgun shells (#7/5, 8, or 9 shot) that are appropriate for your shotgun.
We are very glad to resume Preserve Academy classes and are keeping your health and safety as our highest priority. For each class, please bring a face mask and hand sanitizer. We will ensure classrooms, the range and all other areas related to your class are regularly cleaned and sanitized.

Member and Guest Dress Code.
When entering the Members Lodge Clubhouse, inclusive of the Double Barrel Kitchen Restaurant inside and outside dining, and the Preserve Academy classroom, we kindly ask that you abide by our Resort Casual Dress Code, permitting collared shirts, dress shorts, cotton and linen slacks, dressy blouses, pullover tops, dresses and maxi dresses, dress jeans, and close toed shoes.
Nonconforming clothing includes but is not limited to; bathing suits, beach coverups, camisoles, hoodies, non-dressy Jeans, carpenter pants, T-shirts, sweat suits, cutoffs, torn shorts, yoga pants, sneakers, and flip-flops.
